/opportunity/

Sandpiper 9 is a boutique consulting and strategic advisory firm. Founders Melinda and Robert wanted to create a brand identity that was aspirational yet approachable, sophisticated yet zestful, and that spoke to energetic, innovative professionals looking to elevate. 

/strategy/

Sandpipers are known for their adaptability, having evolved to inhabit and thrive in every continent except Antarctica. The bird’s resourcefulness, power of flight, elegant stature and brown-and-white colouring inspired the foundation of Sandpiper 9’s identity. I also took inspiration from the brand’s second namesake — the number nine, known to represent balance and completeness in numerology, and the colourful Bird of Paradise plant, which symbolises transcendence and can synchronously be found in Melinda and Robert’s workplace. 

/execution/ 

The symbolism and shape of the number nine inspired use of a harmonious three-by-three grid and geographical sans serif, which was variegated with a refined, spirited serif. Combining typographical styles and treatments with a vibrant colour palette lends energy and excitement to the brand system, while clean spaces and demure graphical elements connote sophistication and precision. The brand mark can be disassembled into the icons for Sandpiper 9’s three offerings, representing resourcefulness and completeness, while an empowering voice paired with aerial imagery of extreme environments acts to inspire.
